Hemp seed porridge

Cannabis seeds have long been neglected due to the classification of cannabis as a narcotic drug and the prohibition of cultivation. But now, by separating hemp from marijuana, we can add hemp seeds to the list of superfoods! Why?

Hemp seeds are packed with nutrients, vitamins and minerals and are most valued for their omega-6 and omega-3 essential fatty acids. The ratio of fatty acids in seeds is one of the best found in food, 3:1. The WHO, the World Health Organisation, recommends a ratio of 2:1-5:1. Omega-3 (alpha-linolenic) fatty acids are responsible for strong nails, shiny hair and soft skin. However, many of us have a 20:1 ratio of fatty acids in our diets, in which case omega-6 (linoleic) fatty acids interfere with the absorption of omega-3 fatty acids, leading to deficiencies, which in turn can lead to health problems. The GLA – gamma-linoleic acids in hemp seeds help regulate the body’s hormone balance, reduce inflammation and boost immunity.

How do I choose cannabis seeds?

Like all products, there is quality and there is not, so how do you tell the difference between quality cannabis seeds and low-quality ones, which can make the seeds bitter? The main thing to consider is the freshness of the seeds, and it is best to choose only the freshest seeds from the harvest, with a shelf life of 1-2 years. We also advise you to smell it when possible to make sure there is no moisture or musty smell. The packaging must be airtight and opaque, otherwise the quality of the seeds may be affected by sunlight.

So if you want to replenish your omega-3s, balance your hormones, improve your digestion and metabolism, include hemp seeds in your diet and make sure you try hemp seed porridge! A great choice to start the day or as a side dish. We invite you to try this recipe and share how you flavour your porridge!
